Agia Irini è un villaggio dove si trova l'omonimo monastero di Agia Irini risalente al 1362.Nel 1995, il monastero ha ricevuto il Premio Europa Nostra European Preservation and Renovation for Architectural Monuments Award.
.Oggi si sposa con la spiritualità essendo una comunità di dieci suore, occupata con l'agiografia, tessitura e ricamo. Nel monastero si trova anche un museo ecclesiastico.

Rethymno – Prasses
A relatively short route, ideal to see the villages that are spread over the northern foot of mount Vrissinas.
Agia Irini is a village where there is the homonym monastery of Agia Irini dating to 1362. In 1995, the monastery was awarded the Europa Nostra European Preservation and Renovation for Architectural Monuments Award.
Nowadays it brims with spirituality being a community of ten nuns, occupied with hagiography, weaving and embroidery. In the monastery, there is also an ecclesiastical museum.

A little further on, at Roussospiti, a wonderful Venetian fountain preserved from the 17th century and the Byzantine church of the Virgin Mary with very interesting iconography.
Right to the church you will see the most characteristic Venetian houses that are preserved in the village. The route from here leads to the small, green gorge of Mili and climbs up to the village Chromonastiri, where the magnificent Villa Clodio is situated, hosting the Military Museum.
