Un itinéraire circulaire partant de Rethymno (Theotokopoulou str) jusqu'au village et au couvent d'Agia Irini.Le nunnery, qui date de 1362, a reçu le prix Europa Nostra European Preservation and Renovation for Architectural Monuments Award en 1995.
.Aujourd'hui, elle est occupée par une communauté de dix religieuses, qui ont passé du temps à tisser et à coudre des broderies. Vous pouvez également visiter le musée ecclésiastique.En direction de l'est au village de Rousospiti, une merveilleuse fontaine vénitienne est préservée du 17ème siècle, ainsi que l'église byzantine de Panagia avec beaucoup d'iconographie intéressante.
.Droit à l'église est situé la plus caractéristique de toutes les maisons vénitiennes qui sont conservées dans le village.Depuis le centre du village, l'itinéraire mène au village traditionnel de Kapediana avec la vue magnifique sur la mer Crétoise.
.A l'entrée de ce village verdoyant avec une petite rivière qui coule du Mont de Vrissinas, il y a une fontaine ottomane avec une inscription turque.
.En dehors du village se trouve l'église de Sotiras Christos.
La route continue jusqu'à Chromonastiri, où se trouvent la magnifique Villa Clodio et d'autres bâtiments vénitiens.Dans le temps présent Vila Clodio accueille le Musée militaire.
Il y a aussi le "Prinari milos", un musée folklorique avec une collection importante.On y trouve également les églises byzantines de Panagia Kera et Agios Eftichios avec des fresques des XIe et XIVe siècle, considérées comme les plus anciennes de la Crète.
.L'itinéraire descend ensuite vers Mili, où la gorge verdoyante parallèle à la route et le vieux village abandonné de Mili peut être admiré d'en haut.
.De là, nous pouvons retourner à Rethymno par la gorge de Mili ou un peu plus bas, un virage à gauche mène à Rousospiti.
.Chromonastiri est un village où l'on devrait visiter la magnifique Villa Claudio, appelée aussi -Konaki, comme il a servi de résidence officielle pendant la domination ottomane.
.Vous verrez également plusieurs autres bâtiments vénitiens.
.Il y a aussi les églises byzantines de Panagia Kera et Agios Eftichios avec des fresques du 11ème et 14ème siècle, qui sont considérées comme les plus anciennes peintures murales connues en Crète.

.La gorge de Mili, l'un des paysages les plus idylliques de la région de Rethymno, combine une riche beauté naturelle avec d'importantes unités préindustrielles de transformation agricole, des moulins à eau, qui étaient actifs de l'époque vénitienneaux années 1970 et qui font partie du patrimoine culturel de Rethymno.Il fut un temps où les moulins nourrissaient des aquaducs en pierre qui se répandaient dans toute la gorge.

Rethymno - Agia Irini - Mili - Chromonastiri
A circular route starting from Rethymno (Theotokopoulou str) to the village and nunnery of Agia Irini. The nunnery, dates to 1362, and was awarded the Europa Nostra European Preservation and Renovation for Architectural Monuments Award in 1995.
Today it is occupied by a community of ten nuns, who spent time weaving and sewing embroidery. You can visit also the ecclesiastical museum. Going eastwards at the village Rousospiti a wonderful Venetian Fountain is preserved from the 17th century, as well as the Byzantine Church of Panagia with many interesting iconography.
Right to the church is situated the most characteristic of all the Venetian houses that are preserved in the village. From the center of the village, the route leads to the traditional village of Kapediana with the magnificent view to the Cretan Sea.
At the entrance of this green village with a small passing river that flows from the Mount of Vrissinas, there is an Ottoman fountain with a Turkish inscription.
Outside of the village is the church of Sotiras Christos.
The route continues to Chromonastiri, where there the magnificent Villa Clodio and other Venetian Buildings are located. In the present time Vila Clodio hosts the Military Museum.
There is also the “Prinari milos,” a Folk Museum with an important collection. Situated there as well are the Byzantine churches of Panagia Kera and Agios Eftichios with frescoes from the 11th and 14th century, which are considered to be the oldest in Crete.
The route then descends towards Mili, where the verdant gorge running parallel to the road and the abandoned old village of Mili can be admired from above.
From there you can return to Rethymno through the Mili gorge or a little further down, a turn to the left leads to Rousospiti.
