Un percorso circolare che parte da Rethymno (Theotokopoulou str) al villaggio e al monastero di Agia Irini.Il convento, risale al 1362 ed è stato insignito del Premio Europa Nostra European Preservation and Renovation for Architectural Monuments nel 1995.
.Oggi è occupato da una comunità di dieci suore, che ha trascorso il tempo tessitura e ricamo cucito. Si può visitare anche il museo ecclesiastico.Andando verso est al villaggio Rousospiti una meravigliosa fontana veneziana è conservata dal XVII secolo, così come la chiesa bizantina di Panagia con molte iconografie interessanti.
.Proprio alla chiesa si trova la più caratteristica di tutte le case venete che si conservano nel paese.Dal centro del paese, il percorso conduce al tradizionale villaggio di Kapediana con la magnifica vista sul mare cretese.
.All'ingresso di questo villaggio verde con un piccolo fiume che scorre dal Monte di Vrissinas, c'è una fontana ottomana con un'iscrizione turca.
.Fuori dal villaggio è la chiesa di Sotiras Christos.
Il percorso continua a Chromonastiri, dove si trovano la magnifica Villa Clodio e gli altri edifici veneziani.Attualmente Vila Clodio ospita il Museo Militare.
C’è anche il “Prinari milos”, un Museo Folk con una collezione importante.Si trovano anche le chiese bizantine di Panagia Kera e Agios Eftichios con affreschi dell'XI e del XIV secolo, che sono considerati i più antichi di Creta.
.Il percorso poi scende verso Mili, dove si può ammirare dall'alto il verdant gorge che corre parallelamente alla strada e il vecchio villaggio abbandonato di Mili.
.Da lì si può tornare a Rethymno attraverso la gola Mili o un po' più in basso, un giro a sinistra conduce a Rousospiti.
.Chromonastiri è un villaggio dove si dovrebbe visitare la magnifica Villa Claudio, chiamata anche “Konaki”, come servito come residenza ufficiale durante la dominazione ottomana.
.Vedrete anche diversi altri edifici veneziani.
.Vi sono anche le chiese bizantine di Panagia Kera e Agios Eftichios con affreschi dell'XI e del XIV secolo, che sono considerati i murales più antichi conosciuti di Creta.

.La Gola Mili, uno dei paesaggi più idilliaci della zona di Rethymno, coniuga una ricca bellezza naturale con importanti unità preindustriali di lavorazione agricola, mulini ad acqua, attivi a partire dai tempi venezianiagli anni '70 e che fanno parte del patrimonio culturale di Rethymno.C'era un tempo in cui i mulini alimentavano acquadotti di pietra che si diffondevano in tutta la gola.

Rethymno - Agia Irini - Mili - Chromonastiri
A circular route starting from Rethymno (Theotokopoulou str) to the village and nunnery of Agia Irini. The nunnery, dates to 1362, and was awarded the Europa Nostra European Preservation and Renovation for Architectural Monuments Award in 1995.
Today it is occupied by a community of ten nuns, who spent time weaving and sewing embroidery. You can visit also the ecclesiastical museum. Going eastwards at the village Rousospiti a wonderful Venetian Fountain is preserved from the 17th century, as well as the Byzantine Church of Panagia with many interesting iconography.
Right to the church is situated the most characteristic of all the Venetian houses that are preserved in the village. From the center of the village, the route leads to the traditional village of Kapediana with the magnificent view to the Cretan Sea.
At the entrance of this green village with a small passing river that flows from the Mount of Vrissinas, there is an Ottoman fountain with a Turkish inscription.
Outside of the village is the church of Sotiras Christos.
The route continues to Chromonastiri, where there the magnificent Villa Clodio and other Venetian Buildings are located. In the present time Vila Clodio hosts the Military Museum.
There is also the “Prinari milos,” a Folk Museum with an important collection. Situated there as well are the Byzantine churches of Panagia Kera and Agios Eftichios with frescoes from the 11th and 14th century, which are considered to be the oldest in Crete.
The route then descends towards Mili, where the verdant gorge running parallel to the road and the abandoned old village of Mili can be admired from above.
From there you can return to Rethymno through the Mili gorge or a little further down, a turn to the left leads to Rousospiti.
