Light & Water" Solo Painting Exhibition by Frederick J. Fitham at the House of Culture in Rethymno Frederick J. Fitham presenteert van 6 augustus tot 23 augustus 2026 om 20.30 uur zijn nieuwe soloschilderij expositie getiteld "LIGHT & WATER." De tentoonstelling bevat olieverfschilderijen, aquarellen en gravures die zijn huidige artistieke stijl uitdrukken. Deze collectie belicht de continue thema's en artistieke verschuivingen in zijn werk in de loop der tijd. Het centrale stuk van de tentoonstelling is "Homage to Hokusai," een modern artistiek gesprek met de beroemde "Grote Golf" van de Japanse meester. Fitham studeerde aan de Cheltenham School of Art en St Paul. Hij werkte vervolgens als kunstleraar aan St Crispins School in de buurt van Londen. Sinds de vestiging in Rethymno zijn de stad en het prachtige Kretenzische landschap de belangrijkste inspiratie voor zijn artistieke reis geworden. Als figuratieve kunstenaar is de heer Fitham gefascineerd door hoe licht vorm en volume geeft aan wat we zien landschappen, zeeën en hemelen. Water, met zijn eindeloze beweging, biedt talloze uitdagingen die zijn creativiteit voeden. "Kunst is communicatie," merkt hij op. "Als de kijker de opwinding voelt die mij ertoe aanzette een beeld te schetsen, dan heb ik mijn doel bereikt. Het proces is diep persoonlijk. Zoals W.H. Beecher zei: 'Iedere kunstenaar dompelt zijn borstel in zijn eigen ziel, en schildert zijn eigen natuur in zijn foto's.'" Mr Fitham heeft een indrukwekkende internationale achtergrond. Hij werd uitgenodigd voor de Florence Biënnale in 2007 en de Biblioteca Angelica in Rome in 2021. In 2022 won hij de Eerste Prijs op de internationale PREMIO CAPITOLIUM tentoonstelling in Rome. Zijn schilderijen en gravures zijn te vinden in particuliere collecties in heel Griekenland, Italië, het Verenigd Koninkrijk, Frankrijk, Nederland, Duitsland en de VS. Dit is zijn 14e solo tentoonstelling. Het is een open uitnodiging voor kijkers om een wereld te verkennen waar het landschap, de zee en de menselijke ervaring samenkomen in één prachtig verhaal.

Light & Water" Solo Painting Exhibition by Frederick J. Fitham at the House of Culture in Rethymno Frederick J. Fitham presents his new solo painting exhibition titled "LIGHT & WATER" at the Rethymno House of Culture, from August 6 to August 23, 2026, at 20:30. The exhibition features oil paintings, watercolors, and engravings that express his current artistic style. This collection highlights the continuous themes and artistic shifts in his work over time. The central piece of the exhibition is "Homage to Hokusai," a modern artistic conversation with the famous "Great Wave" by the Japanese master. Before moving permanently to Greece, Mr. Fitham studied at the Cheltenham School of Art and St Paul’s College (Bristol University). He then worked as an art teacher at St Crispin’s School near London—an experience that deeply shaped his artistic identity. Since settling in Rethymno, the city and the beautiful Cretan landscape have become the main inspiration for his artistic journey. As a figurative artist, Mr. Fitham is fascinated by how light gives shape and volume to what we see—landscapes, seas, and skies. Water, with its endless movement, provides countless challenges that feed his creativity. "Art is communication," he notes. "If the viewer feels the excitement that pushed me to paint a picture, then I have reached my goal. The process is deeply personal. As W.H. Beecher said: 'Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.'" Mr. Fitham has an impressive international background. He was invited to the Florence Biennale in 2007 and the Biblioteca Angelica in Rome in 2021. In 2022, he won First Prize at the international PREMIO CAPITOLIUM exhibition in Rome. His paintings and engravings can be found in private collections across Greece, Italy, the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany, and the USA. This is his 14th solo exhibition. It is an open invitation for viewers to explore a world where the landscape, the sea, and human experience come together in one beautiful story.
