Rethymno is taking another initiative toward a greener, smarter, and more accessible future!

As a city that constantly works towards  sustainable urban mobility, Rethymno is thrilled to introduce a brand-new, smart parking and charging network for electric bicycles and e-scooters right in the heart of the city.

Whether you are a local resident commuting to work or a visitor exploring our beautiful alleys, getting around has never been easier or more eco-friendly.

Rethymno’s continuous mobility efforts aim to reduce traffic, lower emissions, and create a friendlier environment for everyone.

To support this vision, the Municipality has successfully installed 15 modern, smart parking and charging hubs, making micromobility secure and accessible to all.

Meet "Bikeep"- The User-Friendly App

The entire system is powered by the  Bikeep  app , designed to be incredibly simple, fast, and user-friendly.

By downloading the app to your smartphone, your device becomes your digital key to the city's micromobility network.

The service is  100% FREE , offering top-tier security for your bike or scooter while you shop, work, or enjoy a coffee.

How to Lock Your Bike

Securing your e-bike or e-scooter takes only a matter of seconds, offering you ultimate peace of mind while you explore the city. The robust, heavy-duty design of the smart racks ensures your vehicle stays exactly where you left it, safeguarded by cutting-edge technology.

Open the  Bikeep app  and scan the QR code (or use NFC) on an available parking rack.

The station will respond—simply  lift the green locking arm .

Place your bike (or e-scooter) securely into the rack.

Close the locking arm  over the frame to secure it. You're all set!

How to Charge Your eBike or eScooter

Say goodbye to range anxiety and the fear of a dead battery ruining your commute! Our stations double as high-tech power banks for your micromobility vehicles, meaning your e-bike or e-scooter rests and recharges right alongside you while you enjoy Rethymno's local shops and cafes.

Before locking your bike,  open the charging compartment  located at the base of the station.

Plug your charger  into the safe, built-in socket.

Close the compartment to keep your charger secure.

Place your bike in the rack and close the green locking arm.

How to Unlock & Go

Open the app and find your active session.

Simply swipe the  "Slide to unlock"  button on your screen.

Lift the green locking arm and remove your bike.

(If charging)  Unplug your charger, close the compartment, and you are ready to enjoy your ride!

The smart system collects anonymous usage statistics, allowing the Municipality to understand real-world demand and plan future expansions based on actual data.

This initiative is proudly co-funded by the European Union under the  SMARTMOBAIR  (Interreg IPA ADRION) project. The overarching goal is to promote sustainable transport, reduce our carbon footprint, and dramatically improve micromobility in cities across the Adriatic and Ionian regions.
