Onder leiding van Andreas A.Giakoumakis, lokale muzikanten en zangers voeren de nostalgische, betoverende melodieën uit Smyrna uit en laten zien hoe ze zich ontwikkelden tot Rebetiko de beroemde underground folk muziek van de Griekse havens, vaakde Greek Blues. Musical Journey From Smyrna to Piraeus, the Greek Blues Municipal Garden - Wednesday, September 16, 2026 19:30 Looking for an authentic cultural experience in Rethymno this week? On Wednesday, September 16th, the Association of Asia Minor Greeks of Rethymno warmly invites locals and visitors to a special musical evening titled "From the Songs of Smyrna to the Rebetika of Piraeus (Part 2)". Taking place in Rethymno Municipal Garden, this concert takes you on a historical journey through sound. Under the direction of Andreas A. Giakoumakis, local musicians and singers will perform the nostalgic, enchanting melodies brought over from Smyrna and show how they evolved into Rebetiko—the famous underground folk music of the Greek ports, often referred to as the "Greek Blues." Even if you don't understand the lyrics, the passion, traditional instruments, and deep emotion of this music will transport you to another era. It is a fantastic opportunity to relax under the trees and connect with the true, historic soul of Greece. Entrance is free
