The heart of Rethymno’s summer remains the  Fortezza Fortress . Overlooking the Cretan Sea, this Venetian landmark transforms into a celestial stage where history meets modern artistry. Highlights for the 2026 season include:

Musical Legends:  Experience the magic of  Alkistis Protopsalti and Nikos Portokaloglou  in a powerful collaboration, or celebrate three decades of Greek music with  Giannis Kotsiras’ "30 Years of Music"  tour.

Virtuoso Encounters:  Don’t miss the rare meeting of two piano masters,  Giorgos Hatzinasios and Stefanos Korkolis , performing under the moonlit sky.

The Archangel of Crete:  Pay tribute to the local legend with the musical theater production  " Nikos Xylouris – The Archangel of Crete ,"  an emotional journey through the sounds that define our island.

Orchestral Grandeur:  The  8th Festival of Philharmonic and Choir Music Ensembles of Crete  will fill the fortress with harmony, showcasing the island's deep musical roots.

International Rhythms & Art:  For those moved by passion, the  Rethymno Tango Festival  returns. Meanwhile, the  Nikos Alexiou Exhibition – "The Fragile Traces of Symbols "  offers a deep dive into the artistic soul of the region, connecting visitors with our symbolic heritage.

Yakinthia Festival 2026

High in the heart of Mt.Psiloritis, at an altitude of 1,260 meters, the Yakinthia Festival 2026 offers a profound encounter with the "saint of sentiment," Saint Hyacinth.[

This year, on July 24th and 25th, the festival turns its spotlight to one of Crete’s most enduring traditions: The Art of Weaving.

 In a moving tribute to the women of Anogeia, the event features the legendary 90-year-old weaver Ermioni Xylouri Kalomoiri opening the festivities at her traditional loom.

Visitors can wander through a village "dressed in colors," where antique textiles drape over local balconies and intricate "thread portraits" showcase modern artistic ingenuity. Set against the backdrop of a unique stone theater and a dry-stone chapel, this festival invites you to breathe in the scents of wild mountain herbs and sip local wine, experiencing a side of Crete that is raw, authentic, and deeply poetic

Anogeia

As part of Rethymno’s commitment to authentic, experience-driven tourism, the  "Land of Mylopotamos 2026"  returns for its 11th year from  August 7th to August 9th  in the town of  Perama . This landmark festival is much more than a trade fair; it is a vibrant celebration of the region’s productive heart and cultural identity.  Located at the Perama Town Hall Square, the event invites visitors to meet the faces behind our world-famous products—from pure olive oil and mountain honey to artisan cheeses.

This year’s program is designed to fully immerse you in the Cretan lifestyle: witness the ancient art of  Cretan weaving  at a live loom, participate in  pottery workshops , and enjoy a high-energy musical lineup featuring stars like  Katerina Lioliou  and  Ivi Adamou . The festival culminates on August 9th with a grand traditional feast led by Petros Maroulis and the world-renowned dancers of the "Omilos Vrakoforon Kritis." By attending the Land of Mylopotamos, you are not just a spectator but a guest of the community, experiencing the "untouched interior" of Crete where tradition meets innovation in the most delicious and rhythmic way.
