Wereldfiets- en milieudagen vieren op het pad naar 2040
Rethymno is een stad in beweging. In juni worden onze historische straten en gouden kusten een levend laboratorium voor een duurzame toekomst.
Als onderdeel van onze ambitieuze " Rethymno 2040" roadmap, organiseren we twee belangrijke evenementen ter viering van Wereldfietsdag (juni 3) en Wereldmilieudag (juni 5).
Deze initiatieven zijn meer dan alleen vieringen; ze zijn praktische stappen in de richting van ons doel om een klimaatneutrale, koolstofvrije bestemming te worden. We nodigen bewoners en bezoekers uit om met ons mee te doen als we de "Eiland We Would Like" verkennen door middel van groene energie, biodiversiteitsbescherming en duurzame mobiliteit.
3 juni: Naar een toekomst zonder koolstof
Ter viering van Wereldfietsdag, de gemeente Rethymno, fietsvriendelijke bestemming, richt zich op duurzame mobiliteit.
In onze reis naar 2040 is het verminderen van koolstofemissies door transport een topprioriteit.
Welke betere manier om dit te laten zien dan een high-tech, low-impact reis door het platteland van Rethymno?
Gratis geleide E-Bike Tour
Op woensdag 3 juni bieden we twaalf gelukkige bezoekers een gratis rondleiding op state-of-the-art elektrische fietsen. Deze reis van 22 km is ontworpen om te laten zien hoe moderne technologie ons kan helpen onze culturele en natuurlijke rijkdom te verkennen zonder het milieu te schaden.
De route: vanaf het Onbekende Soldaatplein, de groep zal gaan naar de historische Panagia Halevi, door de weelderige Mili Gorge, en tot aan de traditionele dorpen Chromonastiri en Roussospiti, voordat de sluiting in het serene Agia Irini klooster.
De impact: Door gebruik te maken van E-bikes, benadrukken we Rethymno's inzet voor "Groene Wielen." Deze actie ondersteunt ons werk in het CO2 PACMAN project, waarbij we onderzoeken hoe groene energietransities zowel praktisch als mooi kunnen zijn.

Twee dagen later verschuift de focus van onze heuvels naar onze kusten voor Wereldmilieudag.
Ons strand is niet alleen om te zwemmen; het is de derde belangrijkste broedplaats in Griekenland voor de bedreigde Caretta Caretta zeeschildpad.
Het evenement: Een avond van bewustzijn op het strand
Van 18:30 tot 20:30 wordt Rethymno Beach een centrum van milieuactie. In samenwerking met de 2e experimentele kleuterschool van Rethymno en ARCHELON, organiseren we een avond met de titel: "Wanneer een licht uit gaat, begint een leven te bloeien.
Art & Action: Kijken als een lokale kunstenaar bouwt een zeeschildpadden met behulp van zeerotsen verzameld door kinderen op de kust. Dit demonstreert de "Circular Economy," die schoonheid uit de aarde voortbrengt en geen verspilling achterlaat.
Jongerenleiderschap: Onze jongste "Klimaatambassadeurs" van de kleuterschool zullen liedjes en theater opvoeren en ons leren dat zelfs kleine burgers de weg naar 2040 kunnen leiden.
De Wetenschap van Licht: We zullen deelnemen aan een symbolische actie om te leren over lichtvervuiling. Door het dimmen van onze lichten, zorgen we ervoor dat babyschildpadden hun weg naar de zee vinden een essentieel onderdeel van de bescherming van onze lokale biodiversiteit.
Begeleide ontdekking: Archelon vrijwilligers zullen gratis Beach Walks leiden (afzonderlijke groepen voor kinderen en volwassenen), bieden een zeldzame blik op hoe we identificeren en beschermen de nesten verborgen onder het zand.

The Route: Starting at Unknown Soldier Square, the group will head to the historic Panagia Halevi , through the lush Mili Gorge , and up to the traditional villages of Chromonastiri and Roussospiti , before concluding at the serene Agia Irini Monastery .

Just two days later, the focus shifts from our hills to our shores for World Environment Day .
Our beach is not just for swimming; it is the third most important nesting site in Greece for the endangered Caretta caretta sea turtle.
The Event: An Evening of Awareness on the Beach
From 18:30 to 20:30 , Rethymno Beach will become a hub of environmental action. In collaboration with the 2nd Experimental Kindergarten of Rethymno and ARCHELON , we are hosting an evening titled: “When a light goes out, a life begins to bloom.”
Art & Action: Watch as a local artist constructs a sea turtles using sea rocks collected by children on the shore. This demonstrates the "Circular Economy"—creating beauty from the earth while leaving no waste behind.
Youth Leadership: Our youngest "Climate Ambassadors" from the kindergarten will perform songs and theater, teaching us that even small citizens can lead the way to 2040.
