Rethymno se transforme en une galerie en plein air !
Ce mois de mai, Rethymno se transforme en un studio vivant en plein air car il accueille les "Sculpture Days" 2026.
Du 8 mai au 20 mai, la ville invite les résidents et les visiteurs à s'élancer dans les coulisses du processus artistique et à assister à l'art ancien de la sculpture en marbre.
Une collaboration unique avec l'École des Beaux-Arts d'Athènes
Cette initiative est une collaboration prestigieuse entre la municipalité de Rethymno, Département de la culture coordonne par le vice-maire Manos Tsakonas et le Laboratoire de sculpture en marbre de l'École des Beaux-Arts d'Athènes (ASFA). Dix étudiants talentueux de l'École ont voyagé à Rethymno pour travailler sous la direction du célèbre sculpteur et superviseur de laboratoire, Dimitris Christogiannis .
Les « Journées de la sculpture » s'inscrivent dans une vision plus large visant à créer des festivals à petite échelle et des célébrations culturelles qui apportent toute forme d'art directement au peuple.
Thème: "Cave d'Idéon" (Idéon Andron)
L'inspiration pour cet atelier de cette année est profondément enracinée dans l'histoire et la mythologie du Crétois : la grotte de l'Idéon.
Connue comme le lieu mythique de naissance de Zeus, la grotte représente un puissant symbole de naissance, de protection et des racines anciennes de l'île.
Les artistes interpréteront ce thème à travers la pierre, en sculptant dix sculptures uniques qui reflètent le mystère et la majesté des montagnes de Psiloritis.

Une expérience artistique vivante
Ce qui rend "Sculpture Days" vraiment spécial est sa nature interactive. Au lieu de voir une statue terminée dans une galerie, le public est encouragé à visiter la station d'art de Rethymno pendant les heures de travail.
Les visiteurs peuvent entendre le son rythmique du ciseau, voir la fine poussière de marbre dans l'air, et regarder comme des blocs bruts de pierre se transforment lentement en œuvres d'art expressives. C'est une occasion rare de dialoguer avec les artistes, de poser des questions et de comprendre le travail physique et créatif impliqué dans la sculpture.

Rethymno Transforms into an Open-Air Gallery!
This May, Rethymno transforms into a living open-air studio as it hosts the highly anticipated "Sculpture Days" 2026 .
From May 8th to May 20th , the city invites residents and visitors to step behind the scenes of the artistic process and witness the ancient art of marble carving come to life.
A Unique Collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts
This initiative is a prestigious collaboration between the Municipality of Rethymno, Department of Culture coordinates by vice mayor Manos Tsakonas and the Marble Sculpture Laboratory of the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA) . Ten talented students from the School have traveled to Rethymno to work under the guidance of the renowned sculptor and lab supervisor, Dimitris Christogiannis .
The "Sculpture Days" are part of a broader vision to establish small-scale festivals and cultural celebrations that bring every form of art directly to the people.
The Theme: "Ideon Cave" (Ideon Andron)
The inspiration for this year’s workshop is deeply rooted in Cretan history and mythology: The Ideon Cave .
Known as the mythical birthplace of Zeus, the cave represents a powerful symbol of birth, protection, and the ancient roots of the island.
The artists will interpret this theme through stone, carving ten unique sculptures that reflect the mystery and majesty of the Psiloritis mountains.

Visitors can hear the rhythmic sound of the chisel, see the fine marble dust in the air, and watch as raw blocks of stone are slowly transformed into expressive works of art. It is a rare opportunity to engage with the artists, ask questions, and understand the physical and creative labor involved in sculpture.
